every evm chain has one number. EIP-155 bakes that number into every transaction you sign, so a tx signed for one chain is garbage on any other. no replaying your swap somewhere it wasn't meant to go.

it's also the number your wallet wants when you add a network. type the wrong one, nothing works. type 99901, you're on elysium. gas is paid in HYPE, wrapped as WHYPE.
